Rancho Verde, Calif. 5'8 shooting guard Brandi Carter inked with the Holmes Community College Lady Bulldogs today in Goodman.

Carter said having family in Morgan City, La., and the hospitality of Lady Bulldog Assistant Coach LaTaryl Williams played a major part in her signing with the Lady Bulldogs.

"One thing is for sure is that I wanted to get out of California and experience something new," Carter said. "It's important I can go on a three hour ride and have a home-cooked meal. After my first year, I know my parents are going to move back to Louisiana. I know that's a safe and secure place I can head home to.

"I love having family here," she added. "The culture here is more me than it was in California. Louisiana or anywhere down south has more hospitality versus California that is super fast. I think this is more me as far as being more laid back and chill."

Carter said she was proud when Williams got in touch with her about the Lady Bulldog program. "He made me feel like I could be on the team and be comfortable with it," Carter said. "I'm not used to that. I need a coach that is always going to be there. I like for a coach to always have the team's back no matter what."

She said she tries to be a complete player with good offensive and defensive skills averaging 12-15 points per game in high school. "I love scoring, and I love to shoot," Carter said. "I love to play defense and I love to block shots and get in the face of my competitor.

Three-pointers from anywhere on the court is not a problem for her either. "That's my comfort zone," she said. "I'm a shooter, and it's what I do. Being able to shoot from everywhere on the court is what sets me apart from anybody on the team or my competitors. If I'm open I'm going to shoot. If I create that space, then I'm going to shoot. I expect to do anything to help the team, help myself and help coaches.

"I try to do everything well," she said. "I work hard on both ends of the floor. Everyone says I can be good but I know I have potential to be great in other ways. I need to have the confidence. If I have the confidence I can do anything on that floor."

She said she understands the competiveness of the MACJC. "It's going to be great for all of us on the team," Carter said. "It's going to teach us that this is where college is (in style of play). It's going to teach us to be better and how that style of play is going to be in our future in basketball."
