GOODMAN --- The Northwest Mississippi Community College Lady Rangers broke a seven game winning streak here Thursday night for the Holmes Community College Lady Bulldogs and took the season-opening North Division contest, 61-59.
With the loss, the Lady Bulldogs fell to 7-2 overall and 0-1 in the North Division. Holmes travels to Coahoma on Monday night to finish first semester play at 6 p.m.
Northwest led by one at halftime, 30-29 and then outscored Holmes 31-30 in the second half. Northwest led by as many as 13 points in the second half while the Lady Bulldogs led by nine in the first half.
Aja Williams led the Lady Bulldogs with 16 points while Carmesha Nalls had 13 and Minyone Hill had 10. Taylor Johnson led the Lady Bulldogs in rebounds with nine while LaShonda Wilson and Tayanna Purnell each had eight.
The Lady Bulldogs shot a dismal 31 percent from the floor and 21 percent from behind the arc while Northwest shot 32 percent from the floor and 18 percent from the behind the arc. Holmes was 54 percent from the free throw line and Northwest was 64 percent.
