Lady Bulldogs use strong second half for 68-54 win over the Northeast Lady Tigers
GOODMAN --- The Holmes Community College Lady Bulldogs picked up a big non-conference win, 68-54, here Saturday over the Northeast Mississippi Community College Lady Tigers.
With the win, the Lady Bulldogs improve to 1-6 on the season. Holmes takes a short break for Thanksgiving and returns to action on Monday, Nov. 29 at Southwest at 6 p.m.
Northeast led 14-7 after one period and 29-25 at halftime after the Lady Bulldogs outscored the Lady Tigers, 18-15, in the second period. Holmes outscored Northeast in the third period, 19-12, to take a 44-41 lead after three. Holmes then pulled away in the fourth period, 24-13, to win the game by 14 points over Northeast.
Makayla Boyd led the Lady Bulldogs with 22 points including five three pointers while Jamey McDaniel had 17 points, Shanbriah Rule had 12 points and Santia Robinson finished with 10. McDaniel pulled down 13 rebounds while Rule had seven, Lanie Potter had six and Robinson and Boyd each had five.
Neither team shot the ball well in the first half with Holmes shooting 27.8 percent, and Northeast shooting 28.2 percent, but Holmes changed that in the second half. Holmes shot 50 percent (16-of-32) in the second half to improve their percentage to 38.2 percent for the game (26-of-68). Northeast shot 24.3 percent (9-of-37) in the second half and 26.3 percent for the game (20-of-76).
