Holmes and Meridian to face off Wednesday in Region XXIII Tournament

GOODMAN --- The No. 6 seeded Holmes Community College Lady Bulldogs will play the No. 3 seeded Meridian Community College Lady Eagles on Wednesday at 6 p.m. in  Meridian in the second round of the Region XXIII Tournament.

Holmes is 16-10 while Meridian is 23-3. Holmes won their first round game on Monday versus Itawamba, 61-55. Meridian defeated Holmes in the regular season finale last Thursday, 58-57. You can watch the game tomorrow at mcceagles.live.

Holmes is led in scoring by Ally Alford, who is averaging 14.2 points per game. Danielle Luckey averages 11.3 points per game while Darranya Wright averages 8.5 points per game, Amaijah Smith and McKinna Smith average 7.7 points per game and Lanie Potter averages 6.7 points per game. Luckey brings in 8.1 rebounds per game while Wright brings in 5, Potter brings in  4.4 rebounds per game and Alford brings in 4.4 rebounds per game. As a team, the Lady Bulldogs are averaging 66.8 points per game and are shooting 37 percent from the floor, 28.5 percent from three-point range and 67.8 percent from the free-throw line.

Holmes is giving up 64.1 points per game.

Meridian is led in scoring by Shakira Wilson, who is averaging 11.9 points per game. Callie Cowan scores 10.3 points per game while Arianna Durrell scores 9.3 points per game, Shania Givens scores 9.2, Amberly Brown scores 8.4 points per game and Elissa Murry scores 7.7 points per game. The leading rebounder is Lizzie Walker with 6.8 rebounds per game while Brown pulls in 6.6 rebounds per game and Cowan pulls in 4.9 rebounds per game. As a team, Meridian is averaging 70.3 points per game and is shooting 40.4 percent from the floor, 28.8 percent from the three-point line and 56.1 percent from the free-throw line.
