Bulldogs fall in North Division opener to Lions, 69-58
GOODMAN --- The Holmes Community College Bulldogs went to 0-1 in the North Division here Thursday night after falling to the East Mississippi Community College Lions, 69-58.
With the loss, the Bulldogs fell to 6-3 overall. The Bulldogs end the first half of the season on Monday night at Northeast. Gametime is 7 p.m.
East Mississippi's Curtis Hall hit a bucket with 4:13 to play in the first half to put the Lions up by 10 before the Bulldogs mounted a first-half comeback. Torrance Rowe's steal and layup with 2:40 pulled the Bulldogs within four at 27-23. Moments later a technical foul on East Mississippi Head Coach Mark White resulted in two made free throws by Rowe to make the score 27-26 East Mississippi. Daveon Slaughter's bucket with 1:30 put the Bulldogs up 28-27 at halftime.
East pulled away to as many as four points early in the second half. With 11:20 left, Rowe nailed a three from way outside to put the Bulldogs up temporarily at 45-43. East took a lead with 9:50 to play and never looked back on a Borchert three pointer. The lead grew to as much as 13 in the second half.
Rowe led the Bulldogs with 24 points while Demarcus Lewis had 10. Deangelo Priar led the Bulldogs with seven rebounds while Lewis had six. Borchert led East with 28 points while D.J. Evans had 22. Borchert had nine rebounds and Traddarrius McPhearson had seven.
