Lady Bulldogs go to 1-1 on the season with a 49-47 win over the Lady Warriors
GOODMAN --- The Holmes Community College Lady Bulldogs went to 1-1 on the season here Saturday afternoon with a big 49-47 victory over the Lady Warriors of East Central Community College.
Tamia Grady made a jumper with two minutes to play in the game, and the Lady Bulldogs were able to hang on for the two-point win. The Lady Bulldogs travel to Pearl River Monday at 5 p.m. in a non-division game with the Lady Wildcats.
Holmes jumped out to an early 9-0 lead in the game on two buckets from Grady and Krystal Baker and a free throw from Jasmine Edwards. The Lady Bulldogs held the lead until 16:28 to play when Jaianah Matthew hit a three-pointer to give the Lady Warriors the 14-12 lead.
The teams swapped leads, and East Central held a 23-15 lead with 7:59 left in the first half when Xzandra Dowd hit two free throws. East Central led 31-28 at halftime.
A Jessica Miles jumper with 10:28 to play brought the Lady Bulldogs to within one at 36-35. East Central hung on until two minutes to play when Denesha Dillard made two free throws to tie the game at 45. Dasha Adams' layup seconds later put the Lady Bulldogs up 47-45 before Taylor Brister tied the game at 47.
Grady led the Lady Bulldogs with 18 points while Dillard had 12 points. Miles and Baker each led the Lady Bulldogs with 11 rebounds while Dillard had 10.
